Mariscal Mine

MARISCAL MOUNTAIN . Mariscal Mountain is seventeen miles southwest of Boquillas in Big Bend National Park , southern Brewster County (at 2901' N, 10309' W). With an elevation of 3,932 feet above sea level, it rises 1,830 feet above Fresno Creek, a mile northeast. The mountain is a mile wide and extends nine miles from the northwest to the southeast, where it terminates on the Rio Grande above Mariscal Canyon. It was reportedly named for Albino Villa Alfelias, an Indian fighter held in high regard by the local Mexican population ( mariscal , Spanish for "marshal," can refer to any important person).
