Alvin, Texas is a great little town just outside Houston and is only minutes away from the sandy beaches of the Texas Gulf Coast. We are proud of our cow town heritage and love to share it with visitors. Alvin's humble beginnings started in 1845 when the first settlers arrived. In the 1860's the railroad established a flag station for the Galveston to Richmond line in Alvin. The Santa Fe Depot still stands and serves as the Historic Depot Centre and Convention and Visitor's Center. In 1872 the railroad hired Alvin Morgan to supervise the loading and shipping of the cattle in Alvin's stock pens. Years later the town was named after Mr. Morgan. Quickly learning that there was already a Morgan, Texas they changed it to Alvin. Alvin became a regular stop for cattlemen interested in purchasing prairie land and the area continued to prosper, becoming well known for cattle and oil. Incorporated in 1893, Alvin has grown and continued to flourish throughout the years, we have never lost sight of where we came from and how we got here. We embrace our past and will continue to include it in our plans for the future. .
