Leona Drug Store

The Leona Drug Store is an old restored drugstore in the very small town of Leona (about 1 mile off I-45 between Madisonville and Centerville north of Conroe). The drugstore burned and was rebuilt in 1923. The owners restored it to look like it was in the 1920s. The population of the town is only 182. In the best of times, there would be 500 people downtown Leona on Saturdays. Today, there are only five businesses in town: the drugstore, the general store, a gunsmith, a lunch cafe, and a hair dresser. What is neat about the town is the general store and the drugstore. The general store is next door to the drug store. It serves catfish on Thursday evenings, and steaks on Friday and Saturday evenings. On a typical Saturday night, the general store will serve 300 steaks, more than the population of the town. Many will come into the drugstore for dessert. At times, it is difficult to find a parking place in town. It is quite unusual. The general store has been serving steaks for about 13 years. The drug store re-opened in 2010.
