Giddings was laid out as a town on April 15, 1871 and was named for J.D. Giddings a stockholder in the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. Giddings became the County Seat of Lee County in 1874 by House Bill 179. Centrally located between Austin and Houston, Giddings has changed much in its first 133 years. Citizens and visitors can enjoy the amenities of the modern world and every kind of choice for advancement-yet be strongly reminded of a rich heritage, family pride, and getting the job done in an ethical way.
