Somerville, Texas

In 1880 when the Santa Fe railroad was being extended north from Brenham in Washington County, the higher land north of the Yegua Creek (approximately midway between Brenham and Caldwell, the County seat of Burleson County) was designated as a new town site. Honoring the vice-president of the Santa Fe Railway Company, Mr. Frank Somers, the town was called Somerville - the suffix ville meaning village or town.
