Visit Laredo...One of the Oldest Independent cities in the United States and the oldest one in Texas, Laredo was founded in 1755. She bears the unique distinction of having had seven changes in sovereignty, thus seven flags have flown over Laredo. She retains her own unique flavor, possessing a rich Latin culture evident in all facets of every day life. Laredo, which traces its beginning back through 245 years, is located on the U.S./Mexico border, just 150 miles southwest of San Antonio and 150 miles north of Monterrey, Mexico. Truly a land of many cultures, the colors, flavors and sounds of Laredo, Texas are the product of its rich heritage. Today, you find a little bit of Texas and a little bit of Mexico, blended into what visitors come to enjoy as the flavor of Laredo.
Long known as the Gateway to Mexico, Laredo, Texas sits on the banks of the Rio Grande, just across the river from its sister city Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Visitors enjoy the convenience of being able to park in downtown Laredo and walk to the tourist district in Nuevo Laredo.
