Georgetown Day Trips

Georgetown, A great small town founded 156 years ago at the fork of the North and South San Gabriel river. Georgetown lies between the lush fertile farm land to the east and the hill country ranch land Balcones escarpment to the west. The city was established in 1848 as a trading center for the surrounding agricultural area. Much of the town has been preserved through participation in the Main Street Project. Georgetown Texas is one of the few old towns that didn't have a devastating fire - as so many of the old towns did. We lost so much history that way - the old towns were made of wood and with no real firefighting equipment as we know it now - they just when up in smoke - or was torn down by the new kids on the block. Thank God the city of Georgetown had better sense.

The Victorian architecture seen in the downtown area has been restored to its period beauty and you can see the great gingerbread that has been restored in the town square around the grand old county court house.

Georgetown Texas is now a town of Victorian-era storefronts, antique streetlights and brick walks lining shaded downtown streets. More than 180 National Registered Historic homes and buildings showcase its eclectic blend of past and present. Live music and dancing. Outdoor dances and rodeos in the summer as well as an outdoor theatre along the Guadalupe River. Movie theater and a community stage theatre.

Annual events in Georgetown include the Easter Festival & Cook-off, Easter Bike Tour, The Senior Games, Georgetown Folk Festival, Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair, Big Bands & Cool Cars, Georgetown Wine & Music Festival, Kelly Creek Classic Mountain Bike Race and many other events including theatre productions, symphonies, and juried shows.
