Dallas, Texas

Located in the Prairies and Lakes region, the town of Dallas, Texas is in Dallas county.

Known for football, the assassination of an American president and JR, the city of Dallas is part of the American story to be sure. However in our opinion Dallas is no longer the hot destination in the North Texas area. Heck football and JR have long been gone from Dallas.

The hub of the Dallas area has shifted slightly to the northwest, closer to DFW airport. Surrounded by several smaller cities, the DFW airport area provides easy access to great destinations and points of interest in all directions.

Exit the airport south and you’ll find the city of Arlington, which is home to the Texas Rangers baseball team, the Dallas Cowboys football team along with Six Flags Over Texas amusement park and the Hurricane Harbor water park.

Exit north via highway 121 and you’ll find the great little city of Grapevine, which is home to the Gaylord Texan Resort, Great Wolf Lodge, Grapevine Mills Mall, Grapevine Vintage Railroad and of course several popular vineyards. If you like shopping keep heading north on highway 121 a bit and you’ll find yourself in the boomtown of Frisco, Texas. Once a small Texas town Frisco has become a hotspot for shopping in the metro area. You’ll find stores like IKEA and Sam Moon Trading Co. along with the shops at Starwood, Stonebriar Centre, Stonebriar Commons at Legacy, The Centre at Preston Ridge and the all important main street shopping in old downtown Frisco.

Just have to see where JR Ewing lived?

That’s a tough one. Do you head west to Weatherford where Larry Hagman (JR) grew up or do you head east to Plano where you’ll find the World famous Southfork Ranch?

Dallas has a few points of interest you should visit. The Sixth Floor Museum is a good place to start. If you’re interested in learning more about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy you’ll find the Sixth Floor Museum very interesting. Adults will pay $14.60 (after tax), children will pay $13.53 (after tax) and children under 5 are free. The Dallas Mavericks basketball team and the Dallas Stars hockey team have a home near the center of Dallas so if you’re in Dallas on a game night stop in. If you’re in Dallas and looking for nightlife the Deep Ellum and Greenville Ave areas are where you want to be. The Dallas West End is a good place to find food and is not to0 far from the Sixth Floor Museum. Dallas may have other attractions you might be interested in. Visit their website for more information.
