region, the town of Burnet, Texas is in
Burnet
county.
Burnet Established in 1849, Burnet (pronounced burn it)was originally named Hamilton and is the oldest town in the county and also the county seat. Indian raids necessitated protection by The Texas Rangers, thus the establishment of Ft.Croghan. Burnet was named for David G. Burnet,the first provisional president of the Republic of Texas. Burnet was designated the Bluebonnet Capital of Texas by the State Legislature.
